COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ADAPTER, FLUORESCENT, SCREW-IN, 36-WATT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Purchase Description FMEE 78-013.
This commercial item description covers 36-watt fluorescent screw-in adapters for direct replacement of 100-watt 120-volt, 60-hertz incandescent lamps.
Salient characteristics:
Medium screw Edison lamp base.
Adapter may be mounted base up or base down.
Ballasts shall meet the requirements of UL Standard No. 935, be CBM certified, high power, and class P rated.
Ballasts shall not contain polychlorinated biphenyl insulating fluid and shall be marked in a manner to indicate same.
One 12-inch, four-pin rapid start FC12T9/CW fluorescent lamp, or two preheat F14T8/CW lamps shall be furnished with the adapter.
The included ballast shall be appropriate for the lamp.
The adapter shall allow quick and easy replacement of the fluorescent lamps without the use of tools.
Adapters shall have clip tube suspension or equal for the fluorescent lamps.
An attachment for a white lamp shield diffuser shall be provided.
The diffuser, when specified, shall be shatterproof, non-yellowing acrylic plastic.
The diffuser shall shield bare fluorescent lamps from direct view from nadir 90o above nadir, when the adapter is ceiling mounted.
The diffuser shall be removable without the use of tools.
The adapter shall be in accordance with UL Standard No.496, Section 10A.
All components shall be combined into an integral unit.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The adapter shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed in fiberboard boxes that will assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be in accordance with the contract or order.
